Eyelash extensions achieve their goal; they just work, the application is straightforward and the result is remarkable, to say the least. Eyelash extensions can be applied to almost anyone, meaning you’ll wake up each day with fuller, longer, darker lashes.
The extensions could be a bit pricey because the process is long and must be applied by a licensed specialist. Even if you do everything you’re supposed to when it comes to aftercare, you’re still likely to experience some harm to your natural lashes, including breakage and shedding. But with that said, lashes are hair, after all, and in most cases, they will grow back within a few weeks.
If you plan to get eyelash extensions, have them applied by a licensed esthetician to avoid these side effects.
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent strands that are attached to natural lashes to achieve longer, fuller, darker lashes. Eyelash extensions are attached to each of your lashes individually with the help of semi-permanent glue.
Eyelash extensions are usually made of synthetic fibers, mink, faux mink, or silk. New York Skin Care MediSpa does not use extensions from real animals, but we do offer a variety of extension lengths, curl patterns, and colors so you can customize your look.
Faux mink extensions are synthetic extensions that mimic real mink extensions; thus, if you are vegan or allergic to cats, this is a good option for you. Neither type of lash extension is more durable than the other. However, the quality of the extensions is important, as some tend to look more natural than others. Synthetic lashes tend to be thicker and darker, so they might be right for you if you’re looking for a more daring look.
There are several degrees of length and curl to choose from. Typically, our lash specialist will use multiple lengths and curl types to create an open-eye effect, with longer lashes positioned toward the outer corners of the eyes and shorter lashes positioned toward the inner corners.
Eyelash extensions are carefully applied one at a time, usually between 80 to 140 strands per eye, using semi-permanent glue specially formulated not to irritate or damage your natural lashes. The lash extension is only applied to an existing lash, not the skin.
Evaluation:
Before the application, the specialist will explain the risks and benefits of having eyelash extensions before applying them, and will also ask about any conditions you may have that may make eyelash extensions unsuitable for you. If you wear contact lenses, you will need to remove them before application.
Style:
The lash specialist will ask you what kind of look you’re looking for, whether you want something more glamorous or more natural. Depending on the look you want, the specialist will choose the ideal length and curvature of the curl for the extensions. Understand that the specialist may use up to three or four different extension lengths, concentrating on longer extensions on the outside and shorter extensions on the inside of the eye.
Cleaning Eye Area:
The lash specialist will help you onto the table and make sure you are in a comfortable position. She will then cleanse the area to remove makeup and oil from around the eye. It would be of great help and it would shorten the application time if you arrive without makeup to your appointment.
Tape and Gel Application:
Your eyes will be closed during the process, which generally takes one to two hours, depending on the number of extensions applied by the specialist. As part of the application process, your lash specialist will apply a gel under your lower lash line to protect and keep your lashes out of the process. Also, the gel provides a contrasting background which is very useful to the specialist. The eye gel will then be secured with medical-grade tape on both sides of the eye; the tape does not touch the lashes and will not cause pain when removed.
Application:
The lash specialist will dip the end of each extension into the lash glue and then apply it to your individual lash. In most cases, one lash extension is applied per natural lash, however, depending on the length and thickness of your own lashes, fuller looks may require multiple extensions per individual natural lash.
Drying:
Lash glue dries very quickly, but your lash specialist will likely let it sit for about 10 minutes with your eyes closed, once all extensions have been applied. The specialist will prefer to wait for the glue to air dry, but a small fan could be used to speed up the process.
Removing Tape and Gel:
After the lashes are totally dry, the lash specialist will remove the gel and tape under the eyes, the removal does not hurt at all, but let the specialist know if you experience sensitivity in this area, in this way the specialist will take extra precautions. Once all the product is removed, the lash specialist will brush the lashes with a special brush, and then you will be asked to open your eyes.
